Rochor C7 & C8, sINGAPORE
Central C7 & C8 is another 2-stage Design Competition conducted by the Housing & Development Board (HDB). Helmed by Ar. Jonathan Lim and his team of Architects back in Surbana Jurong, the team's design successfully proceeded to Stage 2.
The site is made up of 2 plots of land flanked by Jalan Besar, Weld Rd, Kelantan Lane and Sungei Rd. Sporting 6 blocks of super high-rise residential blocks ranging from 5 storeys to 40 storeys high, the 2 sites are connected via a retail overhead bridge for a seamless and entertained connection to the Jalan Besar Downtown Line MRT station.

Unlike conventional HDB design, Ar. Jonathan Lim and his team successfully fused the low-rise character of the surrounding shop houses with the high density of the site using low frontage retail along the main roads.
The team also successfully connected the street scape up to the environment deck at 3rd storey and back down to the river bank along rochor river, where generous landscape sprawled for recreational purpose.
The facade of the towers is inspired from the 2-storey to 4-storey shop houses around the site mapped onto the blue print accentuating the short and long footprint of the shop houses. In reflection of the Red, Green, Blue and Yellow residential blocks in the nearby Rochor Centre which was torn down in 2018, different "time-capsules" of community living spaces depicting the same colours were added and cantilevered from the sky terraces.
