A Defining Moment at Archifest 2026: Honoured by the Profession, Inspired by the Future

As Singapore Archifest 2026 draws to a close, we reflect with immense gratitude on what has been an extraordinary milestone—not only for Archtur, but for Singapore's architectural profession.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of Archifest, a significant milestone that celebrates two decades of bringing architecture closer to society while fostering meaningful conversations about the future of our built environment.

Against this backdrop, we are deeply honoured that our Principal Architect, Ar. Jonathan Lim, was conferred the Overall Young Architect of the Year 2026, in addition to being recognised as the Category Champion – Project Management at the Young Architects Award.

To receive this recognition during such a landmark edition of Archifest makes this achievement especially meaningful and humbling.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the Young Architects League (YAL), the Ministry of National Development (MND), the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), the distinguished judging panel, organising committee, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who has contributed to making Archifest 2026 an inspiring celebration of architecture and our profession.

More importantly, we congratulate every fellow finalist, award recipient, exhibitor, speaker and participant. Together, you have demonstrated the incredible diversity, creativity and resilience that continue to define Singapore's architectural community.

Throughout the festival, one message resonated strongly with us.

Architecture is ultimately about people.

In his opening address, Minister for National Development Mr Chee Hong Tat reminded us that architecture shapes how people live, connect and experience our city. He reaffirmed the Government's commitment to working closely with industry to strengthen capabilities, embrace digital transformation, support innovation, and build a built environment sector that is more productive, resilient and future-ready. He also highlighted practical initiatives such as wider adoption of Design for Manufacturing (DfM), the continued evolution of CORENET X, and ongoing investments in talent and capability development—underscoring a collaborative approach between Government and industry to achieve better outcomes together.

These aspirations strongly resonate with our own.

At Archtur, we believe architects play a unique role within the built environment ecosystem.

Beyond creating spaces, architects bring together diverse stakeholders, reconcile competing priorities, navigate complexity, and transform ideas into places that create lasting social, environmental and economic value.

As our industry continues to evolve, we remain committed to supporting Singapore's transformation by embracing digital workflows, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, advancing sustainable design, investing in continuous learning, and contributing meaningfully to initiatives that improve productivity, coordination and project outcomes.

Receiving the Overall Young Architect of the Year award is therefore not simply a personal milestone for Jonathan. It represents a greater responsibility. A responsibility to uphold the trust placed in our profession.

The conversations throughout Archifest have reminded us that the future of architecture will not be shaped by any one individual or organisation.

It will be shaped by an entire community—Government, industry, academia and society—working together towards a shared vision of creating a Singapore that is innovative, sustainable, liveable and inspiring.
