Nation Building as a Singapore Architect

Happy 59th Birthday, Singapore! Proud to play a part in Nation Building!

Nation Building had always seemed like a far away task until I joined the Built Industry 20 years ago as an architectural student, and later on as a Registered Architect. Building the physical urban fabric of Singapore, working with people from all walks of life, made me realize that the responsibility of Nation Building also falls in everyone's hands. Whichever industry you might be in, a big salute to each and everyone of you for doing our young Nation, Singapore, proud!

As part of Building and Construction Authority celebratory 5-9 milestone of our country's birthday, here is how my typical 9-5 and 5-9 looks like:

My 9-5:

Running a Singapore-based architectural firm Archtur as a Qualified Person (QP), I oversee user-experience architectural, interior design and completion of residential, commercial and industrial projects. Working hand-in-hand with the authorities, I help my Clients realize the bigger picture of a national agenda crucial in nation building, weaving design brief, technical & environmental considerations, community impact and user experience design in maintaining Singapore as a First-World Nation!

My 5-9:

I pay it forward to the next aspiring generation, cross industry and allied professionals by serving as Adjunct Lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic User Experience CentreSingapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), inspiring them ways to contribute to Nation Building thru design and the built industry.

As businesses play a critical role in building Singapore's success, I also journey actively with fellow members at Board of Architects Singapore, Singapore Business FederationAssociation of Small & Medium EnterprisesBNISG.Infinity and Bosses Network Young Chapter, doing our little part in maintaining Singapore economically strong!

My commitments could only be achieved with the support of my lovely wife Priscilla Tay and daughter Ariel Lim. Evenings and weekends are reserved for them as we impart our daughter the best values and beliefs we could, before handing the baton to her in time to come.
