Designing and Ensuring Workability for Pedestrianization at Tampines Central
Project Overview
The Tampines Central 5 Pedestrianization project forms part of the wider transformation of Tampines Regional Centre into a more walkable, people-centric urban environment.
Archtur was appointed to provide architectural and urban design consultancy services for the pedestrianization works along a key connector within this established regional centre.
The project sits within a long-term planning framework that includes new residential, commercial, and public amenities, requiring near-term interventions to align with future urban development.
Urban Design Strategy
The pedestrianization works were conceived as a targeted public realm intervention rather than a standalone streetscape upgrade. Archtur’s approach focused on improving walkability, safety, and spatial legibility while maintaining essential access and servicing functions.
Design decisions prioritized connectivity between transport nodes, adjacent developments, and public spaces, with careful consideration of peak-hour flows, operational requirements, and future infrastructure upgrades.
Significance
This project reflects Archtur’s experience in public realm and civic-scale projects within active urban environments. It demonstrates the firm’s ability to integrate architectural interventions into long-term master-planned contexts, balancing immediate usability with future adaptability.
The principles applied are relevant to town centres, transit-adjacent developments, and institutional precincts undergoing phased urban transformation.
As the appointed Architect for this project, we are currently into the feasibility study and design development stage to ensure feasibility and workability of this project. Stay tuned as we bring forth the good news to Singapore and all residents of Tampines!
