NARRATIVE
towards a car-lite city
with careful urban design strategy
The Tampines Central 5 Pedestrianization project forms part of the wider transformation of Tampines Regional Centre into a more walkable, people-centric urban environment.
Archtur was appointed to provide architectural and urban design consultancy services for the pedestrianization works along a key connector within this established regional centre.
The project sits within a long-term planning framework that includes new residential, commercial, and public amenities, requiring near-term interventions to align with future urban development.
The pedestrianization works were conceived as a targeted public realm intervention rather than a standalone streetscape upgrade. Archtur’s approach focused on improving walkability, safety, and spatial legibility while maintaining essential access and servicing functions.
Design decisions prioritized connectivity between transport nodes, adjacent developments, and public spaces, with careful consideration of peak-hour flows, operational requirements, and future infrastructure upgrades.
