An Impeccable Dining Experience: Chamoon Hot Pot

Understated elegance, dark wood textures, and nature-inspired elements inform this warm and contemporary space that seamlessly transports you to the lush courtyards reminiscent of the Song dynasty era of China; a story of contrast and harmony.

The brief was multifaceted: interpret the quiet beauty, rich greenery and serenity of a Song dynasty courtyard into a modern restaurant setting, balance both private and communal dining experiences, and leverage the accessible roof terrace of the F&B unit; these requirements called for a design approach that could provide creative solutions to meet both aesthetic and functional challenges.

Reminiscing A Historical Aesthetic

To challenge spatial boundaries, and offer a more immersive experience, we incorporated greenery within the ground, housing these green landscapes featuring core elements of the tranquil courtyards of the Song dynasty, through a raised floor system with clear glass. It is a subtle nod to nature, encapsulating the breath of fresh air that a dose of greenery brings, even within the traditional confines of an indoor space.

Deep earthy tones and dark timber wood grain details serve as the backdrop for the selected design details, hence the need for lighting to be well-controlled throughout the restaurant. This allows the selected palette to enhance the overall aesthetic without compromising on the sense of space, while maintaining a warm and inviting ambience.

Conceptualising Varied Dining Experiences

Chamoon Hot Pot is unique in their individualised dining set-up: each diner has their own personal hot pot. In our spatial considerations, each dining table has to be large enough to comfortably accommodate multiple induction heaters, and essential crockery and utensils, while adhering to the space requirement of having dining tables that can house parties of 2, 4, 6, 7, and up to 12.

To maximise dining space, we carved out 3 main areas - a main dining hall, an al fresco, and private dining rooms, successfully curating an efficient layout that allows for a balanced mix of intimate nooks for smaller groups, and flexible spaces for larger groups.

A large function room can be made available with ease, just by opening up the private dining areas into an elongated space. Anchored by full-height windows clad with lighted meshes nostalgic of the Song era, the design details that have been incorporated are not only aesthetically pleasing but functional, providing privacy to the diners within.

The accessible roof terrace that is housed within the restaurant was envisioned to offer a prime al fresco dining experience, with a lively view of the cityscape. Retractable blinds have been used here, to also effectively divide the space; this time, into 3 additional private dining rooms. With this added flexibility, varied configurations can be offered to diners.
