Client’s brief background

A traditional family who values privacy, keeping its main entrance closed up, and their private spaces tucked to the upper floors of their home. At the same time, they enjoy hosting social gatherings in large group settings, catering a large bulk of the basement and first storey to communal spaces, for hosting parties, and catering spaces for entertainment and play. There is definitely a space where guests feel at home.

Key design objectives

• Maximize gross floor area, with the erection of a new basement and fitting in 6 bedrooms all with ensuite or jack and jill bathrooms

• Doing minor additions and alterations to the property, while maintaining the structural intent

• Utilizing the unique terrain on site as an opportunity for special customization and usage of spaces

Design preferences and desires

• An exhilarating basement that invites their guests into crazy adventure, with exciting amenities such as a games room, a multi-purpose entertainment room that can be transformed into a karaoke or movie theatre, a gym room, as well as a pantry and dining area.

• Beautifying and modernizing the façade

• Grand entrance which caters easily to the parking for 4 vehicles, a traditional Chinese elusive entrance giving its homeowners the privacy they desire, which is further accentuated in the unique conceptualizing of the spaces on the ground floor, where its communal spaces for social gatherings are tucked towards the back of the house
